The Final Few Days!

Our American team spent their last few days working with Annex teachers and students. They co-taught Sue’s Sky and painted their very own watercolor masterpieces. Students from Baby Class to P4 participated!

Students also participated in a design challenge project that their partner school friends at Eagle Crest did last spring. Top Class and P1 learned about similarities and differences between Uganda and Colorado including water usage, population, use of boats, geography and local food and agriculture.

They did sink/float predictions and made boats out of tin foil. Then, added metal washers to test which designs were able to hold the most weight before sinking. The winning boat held 70 washers before it sank! The students and teachers - who made their own boats - got a kick out of this lesson!

The P2 and P3 students learned about water needs and the lack of clean water in so many communities around the world. They discussed what they used water for and where they get their water. Every student noted that their family boiled water before drinking.

We discussed how much water is wasted in the United States compared to how water is conserved in Ugandan and other African countries. They learned about how much water it takes to make clothing, computers, cars, and produce milk in a typical factory-production setting.

In groups of two, the students were tasked to create their own water filter, then running an efficacy experiment by running dirty water through it. They used objects like grass, coffee filters, pieces of a screen, sponges, felt, napkins, and even leaves. Fun was had by everyone!
