Since our inception, our cross-cultural activities programs have connected thousands of students to share and appreciate each other’s cultures, explore traditional knowledge, and learn from different ways of life. We started by utilizing a traditional pen-pal program in which students at one school would write a simple letter to students at their partner school overseas.

As we’ve grown, we’ve refined our cross-cultural activities to complement the skills students acquire as they move through grade levels. Now, these cultural exchange activities explore identities, celebrate cultures, and discover solutions to global issues.

  • Students in Colorado and Uganda participate in cross-cultural education activities. Partner schools will swap art projects and mixed-media creations that share more about themselves, their families, and their communities.

  • Throughout the year, we arrange video chats between students at our partner schools. We host a “Mwebaza Day” every year where partner schools connect through video, perform dances, sing songs, ask questions, and toast to friendships across the ocean.

  • Each year, we facilitate the participation of partner school students in Uganda and Colorado in the World Affairs Challenge. This international competition for middle and high schoolers invites them to implement creative solutions that fit within U.N. Sustainable Development Goals to solve real-world issues.
