The Lord's Resistance Army (a militant rebel group formed in 1987 by Joseph Kony) grew increasingly violent across Gulu and the surrounding communities through the 1990s. In 1996, the Ugandan government ordered all civilians in northern Uganda to relocate to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. At one time, an estimated two million people lived in those camps.

A social enterprise is a mission-driven business that applies commercial strategies to maximize improvements in social, environmental, or cultural well-being rather than focusing solely on maximizing profits for shareholders. These organizations sell goods or services, are financially sustainable, and reinvest the majority of their profits back into their core social or environmental mission.

Here's our vision: When young people grow up as true global citizens (understanding interconnected systems, building across cultures, and designing solutions rooted in equity), they can create communities that meet everyone's needs. Communities like that don't produce poverty but prevent it.

What if education were designed around introspection, collective memory, informed action, and transformation? What if students engaged in dynamic learning experiences that go beyond standardized testing and static skills to thrive in an ever-changing world?
