“Mwebaza Day” Refers to in-school, cultural celebrations that we host with our Colorado and Uganda partner schools, each spring.
These special days invite each school community to connect with One of the Mwebaza partner schools on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, through a live video chat.
Mwebaza Day promotes cross-cultural understanding, global awareness, and meaningful educational connections by inviting students to share culturally-relevant dances, songs, and engage in a Q&A. Learn more below!
Mwebaza Days are integral to our mission of inspiring global citizenship.
Mwebaza Day is a dedicated time for reflection, action, and celebration of the partnerships that bridge our diverse partner communities in Colorado and Uganda. Moreover, these celebrations showcase the learning and global understanding happening with elementary-aged students because of our in-school, cross-cultural activities.
At the Mwebaza Foundation, we believe that global citizenship begins with genuine human connections. Mwebaza Day exemplifies this philosophy.
What does a typical Mwebaza Day celebration include?
Student-led video calls that showcase cross-cultural performances, which parents are invited to attend virtually or in person (school-dependent)
A live, question-and-answer exchange between individual students from each school
In Colorado, Mwebaza Club students lead a school-wide passion fruit juice toast celebrating friendship at the closing of the live video call.
In Colorado, Mwebaza staff members and school teachers lead discussions and invite students to fill out written reflections, sharing their feelings and questions about the day. In Uganda, school teachers also lead a discussion and reflection project with students.
