Ugandan and American Teachers Prep for Libraries!

Recently, Mwebaza Annex and St. Paul were approved for a school library grant from African Library Project. In preparation for the library project that will be implemented next year, our team spent time with these teachers on Friday. They collaborated on ways to use fiction and nonfiction books to foster a love of reading in their students.

Teachers learned how to find new ways to problem solve by gathering information and making educated guesses. They also learned about predicting and finding patterns in text. Then, everyone split into two groups and used a book to make a 15-minute lesson. We came back together and each group taught their lesson. We shared so many laughs!

From Hillari, “We had so much fun! The lessons were great and funny and we all just had the best time. We spent over 2 hours learning together. All the teachers are very excited to be getting a library next year!”

The team also visited some acreage of land around St. Paul, including Madame Agnes' donated plot where she’s growing maize as a cash crop. In March, she had just begun tilling the land with the help of St. Paul teachers and the community. Now the corn stands so tall. We’re excited to see this business develop!

Check back later for more :)
